About Vedic Astrology
Although there are mainly three types of Astrology followed around the world namely : Vedic or the Hindu Astrology (Jyotisha),Western Astrology and the Chinese Astrology. Vedic Astrology is more popular around the world. Jyotisha is the abstraction of the planets, stars and other celestial bodies which include the horizon. The word "Jyotisha" is a combination of two words, of which the first part "Jyoti" means light which is believed to have its source from heaven and the second part "Sha" means best or the prudent one. Therefore the word Jyotisha can also be called as the "science of lights" or "the wisdom of the heavens".
Vedic Astrology interprets the movement of nine planets or Grahas namely- surya(sun), Chandra(Moon), Mangal(Mars), Budha(Mercury), Brihaspati(jupiter), Shukra(Venus), Shani(Saturn), Rahu(North Lunar Node) and lastly Ketu (South Lunar Node). One of the important elements in jyotisha or vedic astrology are the distant stars which aid in determining the effects of the planets.
Vedic Astrology is also called "vedanga" in which the suffix "Anga" means limbs or branch of the vedas.
Vedangas are six in number namely-Shiksha(phonetics),Kalpa(ritual),Vyakarana(grammar),Nirukta(etymology),Chhandas(metrics) and Jyotisha (astrology).Their mention can be found in the Upnishads. Hindu Astrology has an underlying theory that is the theory of fate. Your karmas or actions determine your future actions. According to Vedic Astrology, an individual is born at that moment and time when hi destiny is in perfect accord with the progress of the stars in heaven. But it does not advise one to be totally dependent on your fate. It only tells you what you were born with, your strengths and the weaknesses.
